What To Do With The Kids When It Rains in Kelowna

Kelowna is an all-around fabulous place to travel with Children. Although rainy days are few and far between in summer, it’s always nice to have some ideas in your back pocket for when the sun isn’t shining. So here are some of our favourite ideas for what to do with the kids when it rains in Kelowna.

H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre

If your beach day is called on account of rain but your water babies still want to make a splash, head on over to H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre. This world-class waterpark is owned by the City of Kelowna and operated by the YMCA of Okanagan. H2O is the biggest municipal water park in Canada and features an Olympic-sized pool, waterslides, wave pool, kids spray park, river run zone, diving boards, swimming lanes, surf wave simulator, a steam room and two hot tubs. You’ll be sure to find wet and wild fun for every member of your family.

Jump2it Indoor Playground

If you are looking for a place for your wee ones to burn off some excess energy, head on over to Jump2it. This family fun indoor playground is perfect for kids ages 2-9 years. It has gigantic inflatable bouncers, 3-story play structure, bouncy castles, huge slides, obstacle courses and many other fun activities. They also have a separate toddler area where “little ones can have big fun too”. So, let the kids climb, bounce and go wild on the slides while you watch from the comfortable viewing area. Heck, you can even grab a drink from the snack bar and surf the net on their free Wifi while you wait.

Fun Bugs Indoor Playground

Fun Bugs Indoor Playground is perfect for a slightly younger audience as it has been specifically designed for kids 6 and under only. They offer a large full-scale play structure, small toddler area, a baby area just for the crawlers, interactive computer floor and even a bouncy castle. There are heaps of activities to entertain your little ones at this parent supervised play centre. They also have coffee, drinks and snacks for purchase.

Now if it’s the largest indoor Family Recreational centre you are looking for, head on over to the EnergyPlex! The Gym alone has trampolines, a foam pit, rope swings and an obstacle challenge. Then there is the Ballistix Ball Range (a massive foam ball shooting arena) and a Laser Tag arena. Make sure you check out the 30’Rock Wall and the Energy Cube (a 4-level playground with slides where your kids can run, climb, slide and crawl). There is a craft & movie corner as well as pre-school and toddler areas. You can try the SkyTrax (indoor Aerial Park) or from May-Sept, give the outside Bungy X-Treme Trampolines a whirl! The EnergyPlex offers a full-service cafe, free Wifi, and complimentary coffee & tea for adults. It’s fun for the whole family!

Bowling – Capri Lanes or McCurdy Bowl Centre

If bowling is more up your alley 😉 😉 there are two great choices for family bowling fun in Kelowna. McCurdy Bowling Centre and Capri Lanes.

McCurdy Bowling Centre is a state of the art facility which offers both 5 & 10 pin lanes. Have a go at cosmic bowling where they add music, smoke and a light show! They offer bumper guides for the gutters as well as roll assists for the smaller kids. When you are done throwing balls, you can enjoy full food and beverage service with kid-friendly menu choices and beverages from Freddy’s BrewPub for Mom & Dad.

Capri Lanes offer 5 Pin bowling for all ages. The small balls make it easier for little hands to handle and they have gutter guards and ball ramps. Book a laser bowl game and everything will glow in the dark while the music is pumping. They are fully licensed so you can enjoy a beverage while you bowl.

Scandia Golf & Games

When the weather clears up you can always go back for the biggest miniature golf course in Canada, bumpers cars, batting cages and go-karts. Okanagan Regional Library

The Okanagan Regional Library offers free in-branch services to all visitors. You are welcome to use computer stations, have wireless access, and there is programming available for both children and adults. Choose your location on their Events Calendar to find out what’s happening while you’re in town. There are 3 branches of the Okanagan Regional Library in Kelowna Downtown, Mission and Rutland.

Kelowna Museums are a perfect destination for those less than perfect beach days. They offer a wide selection of exhibitions, public programs, and special events. Who knows what your kids will discover! Perhaps an art gallery is not the first place that comes to mind when thinking of rainy day activities for your children. However, maybe your butting young artists would appreciate learning something new about art. If that rainy day happens to fall on a Sunday, well even better as Kelowna Art Gallery hosts a “Family Sundays” event. There are heaps of hands-on activities to help your kids engage, create and discover a world of art and explore their artistic talents.
